A large, black, leather bound book sits in a place of honnor on top of an iron pedistal under a torch in the center of the lybrary. The volume's title is printed in silver across the front in Enlish as well as some Slovak tongue that has been lost to time.
Introduction
Durmstrang.
The second oldest witch and wizardry school in existance was stared by an ancient group of Russian and Romanian wizards and witches seeking a closer institute then Hogwarts. With this three dorms were created, Gryphon, Pheonix and Dragon. These dorms have very much dictated the way the students treat one another as of late.
Situated on the ede of a lake in the mountains between St. Petersburg and Murmansk, the school is a stone castle with a large central staircase that leads to the lake and the grounds. It is said that the view from the windows of the dorms is unriveled.
Although in the past the school used to teach anyone and everyone that was able to do magic, much like the other schools across the world, recently this pollicy has benen changed. The second headmaster, a man by the name of Gregory Tescla instituted a pureblood or halfbloods only rule, banning muggle borns from the school forever. This was met with outrage but those that were now not allowed were forced to attend Hogwarts or Beauxbatons Accademy. A second, and possibly more infuiating change made by this man, was to change the emphasis of the school from simply learning protective spells to learning the Dark Arts themselves.
Since this day the student body has changed. What was once a diverse and well intended school has now become almost a private school for the children of the older Slovic families. The less prestigiouse families still have a place in the school but they are placed very low by thier fellow students. The number of female students has begun to dwindle as well. While there are still girls attending in a steady number that number is steadily decreasing. More and more of the students entering the school are boys while very few girls, especially those that are girly, are leaving in favor of other schools.
Despite all these things the school remains strong even now in this time of darkness. A man known as He-who-must-not-be-named is tryig to sieze control of the wizarding world. Those that do not support him are beign picked off one at a time and those that fallow his are gaining power everywhere, even this far from the man himself. Despite Durmstrang's remote Russian location the English menice's grasp is stretching far in these parts.[/center]
The pages after this are far less thumbed, indicating that most people don't bother to read any farther. Who knows what else may be revealed in these pages....
